Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are the most expensive pest issue in the United States. Most extermination companies use heat treatments that cost an average of $1000 – $2000! To get rid of bed bugs yourself and potentially save thousands of dollars, you need to follow very specific steps and treat very thoroughly. This guide will provide you with the correct steps to help you resolve bed bug issues in your home.

This tutorial was written by a licensed pest control applicator (that’s me, hi!) and utilizes the same practices used by industry experts.

This tutorial uses the NatureTek Pro Kit as the means of treatment. Although not required to follow this guide, we recommend using NatureTek because it includes everything needed to solve bed bug issues, including the specific pest control products required, as well as the tools and safety equipment needed to apply it. 1. Wash & Dry Clothes and Fabrics

The first step to getting rid of bed bugs is eliminating sources of infestation before spraying. The best way to do this is to get every single blanket, sheet, rag, piece of clothing or any other fabric from infested rooms into a wash and dry cycle. The dryer is what’s really important here because the heat will kill any bed bugs that are infesting these fabrics, which will allow the product treatment to take care of the rest. Make sure to be thorough, because even a single surviving bed bug can restart the infestation after we’ve treated.

2. Prepare to Treat

Make sure you’re wearing a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Use the provided safety gloves whenever handling the product. Always follow included product label instructions.

Follow the included directions for mixing the product and attaching the electric spray wand.

3. Treat Infested Rooms Thoroughly

Now with your product ready, it’s time to treat the inside thoroughly. We need to treat every room with signs of bed bugs very thoroughly. Pay particular attention to areas where you’ve noticed activity or are common hiding places for bed bugs, including mattresses, furniture, upholstery, etc. Have your wand on a mist setting when treating these areas, and apply broadly.

Be sure to allow the product to dry for at least 30-60 minutes before allowing any person or animal to come into contact with the area. After the product has dried, there is no worry with anyone touching those areas.

4. Repeat If Problems Persist

Oftentimes what you’ve done should be sufficient if treatment was thorough. However, sometimes bed bugs can be in difficult to reach places and can be persistent. If you continue to notice activity after 5 days, we recommend repeating these steps again with more product. Doing so will help finish off any remaining bed bugs that may have persisted the first time, while not allowing them to fully re-populate to original levels.

5. Recommended Products for Bed Bugs

For bed bugs, you need pro-grade products that have a strong residual effect. This will cause more bed bugs to come in contact with the treatment areas after you’ve applied the product, which is vital for getting these pests eliminated.

NatureTek kits come with products that have these features and are fantastic at solving bed bug issues. To get a pest control kit to solve your bed bug issues, click the link below.
