Getting Rid of Cockroaches

Cockroaches are a pest notorious for spreading bacteria and causing illness. Common species include the Oriental Cockroach, Brown-banded Cockroach and the American Cockroach. A cockroach infestation requires thorough treatment in order to flush out all existing issues so they don’t resurface again later.

This is a step-by-step guide to solving cockroach issues. This tutorial was written by a licensed pest control applicator (that’s me, hi!) and utilizes the same practices used by industry experts.

This tutorial uses the NatureTek Pro Kit as the means of treatment. Although not required to follow this guide, we recommend using NatureTek because it includes everything needed to solve cockroach issues, including the specific pest control products required, as well as the tools & safety equipment needed to apply it. Check for German Cockroaches

The first step is to identify whether you are dealing with German Cockroaches or another species of cockroach. We have a separate set of guidelines for German Cockroaches, so we need to check if that’s what you are dealing with first.

German Cockroaches are rather small in size, and can be recognized by two, dark, parallel stripes going down their backs.

The other factor you can use to identify German Cockroaches is the amount of cockroaches you are seeing. If you’re seeing very large numbers of small cockroaches that seem to be growing in numbers quickly, you are likely dealing with German Cockroaches.

German Cockroaches are difficult pest issue to resolve, so we have a very specific set of recommendations for getting rid of them. If it seems like you are dealing with German Cockroaches, click HERE for a separate tutorial. If they don’t seem to be German Cockroaches, continue below.

1. Prepare to Treat

Make sure you’re wearing a long sleeve shirt, long pants and closed-toe shoes. Use the provided safety gloves whenever handling product. Always follow included product label instructions.

Follow the included directions for mixing the product and attaching the electric spray wand.

2. Prepare the Inside for Treatment

We’ll start with the inside of the home.

We need to start by eliminating potential sources of food, water and shelter by cleaning thoroughly and decluttering. This will force the cockroaches out so our treatment can eliminate them.

Whether treating inside or outside, always allow 30 – 60 minutes after spraying for the product to dry before having people or pets touch those areas. Once the product has dried thoroughly, there is zero worry about coming in contact with those areas!

3. Treat the Inside Thoroughly

Treat the inside of the home in areas where you see cockroaches (usually kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other rooms with sources of water). Spray on a mist setting thoroughly in these rooms, particularly around the lower areas of walls, baseboards, corners, and cracks & crevices.

4. Treat the Exterior Foundation

Next, treat the exterior foundation thoroughly. Apply up the wall (2 feet) and out from the wall on the ground (1 foot) to create a repellent barrier.

5. Recommended Products for Cockroaches

For cockroaches, you need pro-grade products that have a strong residual effect. This will allow the product to continue eliminating cockroaches after you’ve finished applying treatment.

NatureTek kits come with products that have these features and are fantastic at solving cockroach issues. To get a pest control kit to solve your cockroach issues, click the link below.
